2025 Schedule Detective

As summer closes and Universities across the country start to release the upcoming basketball season schedules, it is time to start compiling what we know about the UT Arlington schedules. To refresh your memories, UTA is usually makes their schedule known at the back end of school releases. They are usually quite late to the game. It gets harder and harder to schedule teams at UTA's level to get quality games, or in some cases, games at all. 

I get my non-conference information from two sources generally. The individual teams that have released their schedule already and Rocco Miller, who does about the best job out there of covering every school in the country as you'll find. Occasionally a third source comes out, but that is rare. 

Additionally, the Western Athletic Conference has released the upcoming conference slate. As was rumored, there will be a third game, ending the traditional round-robin, home-and-away format that has been the staple. Once the schedules are released, I'll opine my opinion of that and how the Mavs fare with that third game.

Here's what we know:

This totals 23 games, of which one is a multi-team event, or MTE. Currently, teams can schedule 28 games plus three in an MTE. I say currently because the schedule maximum expands next year. So for the men, there will be a maximum of five more games. There were six December games last year and only one, a conference game, on the slate so far this year. 

UTA hosted Evansville last year, the front end of a two-game series. I'd expect the Aces on the schedule at their place. If I to guess, it'd be mid-December, same as last year.

Texas State is a recurring team and UTA is owed a home game as the Mavs played in San Marcos last year.

That brings the tally of games to 25, plus a second team in the Weber State MTE, so 26 out of a maximum of 31. They may not hit the maximum, but there will be more games.

The Mavs usually schedule at least two guarantee games. Only UNM is in that category this year. There will likely another, usually a Power-Conference team.

I was hoping for North Texas last year and will so again in 2025/26. However, given the dynamics of scheduling in the current environment, I won't be holding my breath there. 

Two years ago, UTA hosted Oral Roberts. I didn't confirm it with anyone, but assumed that was a home-and-home series. The Golden Eagles did not appear on the schedule last year. There's a possibility they will this year for a game in Tulsa.

I have no other leads or guesses for the remaining slots.

Moving on to the women, there is even less available than the men.

That's 21 games, of which three are an MTE. There will be a maximum of ten more games, so clearly there is way more to add. Looking over prior schedules, I don't see any clear additions. Maybe the Mavs will host East Texas A&M. They last met when the school just changed the name from Texas A&M-Commerce (I like that change so much) in Commerce. The two did play in Arlington in 2022/23. It was the first year of their transition to Division I. I don't know if that game was a guarantee scheduled prior to the transition or the first year of a two-game series. I'd like these teams to start meeting in all sports more often.

Otherwise, I'm at a loss of new opponents. I'm sure there will be some guarantee games. The Mavs schedule at least last year. But so far, I haven't seen the Mavs on anyone's schedule in that regard.

UTA did play at SMU last year. If I had to wager an opinion, my guess would be the Mustangs paid UTA for the trip, making it a third money game. But it is possible they will travel to College Park Center this year, however small.
