2023/24 Schedule Detective Update

It's been near a month since the last post regarding the schedules of the UT Arlington basketball programs, so rather than put the new information in a comment of an old post, I'll add the new information into this one.

First, I haven't seen much on the women's side, so I don't have anything new to add. In year's past, the ladies have fewer leaks or people interested in putting the information out before the schools. What is released now will likely be it, save for a game or two, until the schedule is released.

On the men's side, the schedule is getting near complete by piecing together information from other team's schedule releases. Announced yesterday, Texas Tech has published their upcoming schedule and the Mavs will make an appearance in Lubbock for the first time since 2010. UTA is 0-6 all-time versus the Red Raiders, all in the Texas Panhandle, save for a neutral site game in 1992.

Here's the schedule as I have been able to piece together:

  • Nov. 6 ORAL ROBERTS
  • Nov. 16 @ New Mexico
  • Nov. 19 @ Arizona
  • Nov. 22 ALCORN ST
  • Nov. 25 TEXAS ST
  • Nov. 29 ABILENE CHRISTIAN (WAC)
  • Dec. 2 @ Grand Canyon (WAC)
  • Dec. 16 Air Force (Dickie's Arena)
  • Dec. 21 @ Texas Tech
  • Jan. 1 @ UT-Austin
  • Jan. 4 @ Tarleton (WAC)
  • Jan. 6 @Stephen F. Austin (WAC)
  • Jan. 11 UTAH VALLEY (WAC)
  • Jan. 13 SEATTLE U (WAC)
  • Jan. 18 UT RIO GRANDE VALLEY (WAC)
  • Jan. 20 @Abilene Christian (WAC)
  • Jan. 27 GRAND CANYON (WAC)
  • Feb. 1 @Southern Utah (WAC)
  • Feb. 3 @Utah Tech (WAC)
  • Feb. 8 @California Baptist (WAC)
  • Feb. 10 STEPHEN F. AUSTIN (WAC)
  • Feb. 15 TARLETON (WAC)
  • Feb. 17 @UT Rio Grande Valley (WAC)
  • Feb. 22 SOUTHERN UTAH (WAC)
  • Feb. 24 UTAH TECH (WAC)
  • Feb. 29 @Seattle U (WAC)
  • March 2 @Utah Valley (WAC)
  • March 7 CALIFORNIA BAPTIST (WAC)

The NCAA's rules give up to 28 regular season games, along with another three for a Multi-Team Event, or MTE. If my math is accurate, we know 28 games for sure. There's one of three possibilities regarding the schedule:

1) The schedule is complete and this is it with no MTE,

2) The MTE has not been finalized, or

3) The games against Arizona and Alcorn State count as the MTE for the Acrisure Classic and there are more games to be announced.

If I had to bet, I'd wager the second is the more accurate one. I doubt the schedule is complete as I'd expect it to have been released by now.

I doubt the Acrisure Classic is an MTE for several reasons, not the least of which I believe MTE's have to be consecutive dates at the same place. There's also no indication on the Michigan State schedule of the Spartans and Mavericks squaring off, as they face Arizona in a televised game.

Assuming all that remains is an MTE, UTA will have 13 home games (three in non-conference and none over the winter break),14 road games (four in non-conference and three, most likely all four, are guarantee games) and one neutral site contest that is less than a twenty-mile drive from campus. More importantly to me, there would be no games against Non-Division I opponents.

Without knowing about an MTE, and regardless of it, this is shaping out to be a great schedule.
