I'll add another short entry here in following the end of the Western Athletic Conference baseball season. Friday answered some questions, but not a lot.
What we learned was UTRGV's 15-1 victory gives them the eighth spot in the standings, and the last ticket to the conference tournament.
With Seattle's 16=6 win over Abilene Christian, they've secured a top four berth and a first round bye.
Sam Houston won over Tarleton and Grand Canyon beat California Baptist. That means a Sam win or a Lope loss gives the Bearkats a regular season title. A Sam loss and a GCU sweep will give it to GCU.
UT Arlington's game with Utah Valley was suspended in the bottom of the sixth with two outs. Rain later postponed the restart time to 10 AM Saturday. So UVU could still end up with the third seed if they come back to win and game three gets in the Wolverine win column. UVU gets a top four berth a series win. If UVU wins the series 2-1, they'll need ACU to win the rubber match versus Seattle to get the third seed.
If UTA hangs on to win the second game and gets the third, they will earn the four seed. If they don't and win just one game, then they will finish somewhere between fifth and seventh.
CBU will be a big Seattle fan as they own the tiebreaker and can still vault over the Wildcats with a Grand Canyon sweep. UTRGV could also conceivable be higher than the eighth seed as they own the tiebreaker with ACU as well.
Now, what would really throw a wrench in everything is the UTA/UVU delayed restart. If that second game goes past 1pm, the third game would be canceled. One day left to play and everything is still so murky. This is the allure of sports, the real-life unscripted drama.
